Boat trip on the River Wey from Dapdune Wharf

Join ThamesMOG for a boat trip along the River Wey at Guildford, followed by a cream tea at Dapdune Wharf.

The trips take about 40 minutes. Most trips head towards Guildford, passing what used to be the manufacturing quarter, with the Electric Theatre - the former electricity works for Guildford until 1868, and the site of Moon's timber yard - now Debenhams. At the wharf, visitors can see where the huge Wey barges were built and climb aboard 'Reliance', one of three surviving barges.

The Wey was one of the first British rivers to be made navigable, and opened to barge traffic in 1653.

This 15-mile waterway linked Guildford to Weybridge on the Thames, and then to London.

The Godalming Navigation, opened in 1764, enabled barges to work a further four miles upriver.

The volunteer skippers have an interesting tale to tell - all about the history of the area you will be passing through on your trip. In summer, the damselflies dart in and out of the boat, shining emerald and blue.

Sometimes the volunteer skippers decide they need a change and head downstream towards Stoke lock, passing lovely bankside vegetation and offering you a completely different view of Guildford.
