Weathering the Storm
Despite the inclement autumn weather and frequent rain showers, spirits were anything but dampened at our Noggin on Sunday 19th October. With the forecast suggesting a low turnout, there was some concern as we were expecting a very special guest: Jann Robinson, Director and Chair of the MSSC, who had kindly agreed to join us and provide an update on the club’s direction and challenges.
Flying the Flags
Sally and I arrived early to raise the flags in the car park, setting the scene for the day. Not long after, Jann arrived and was welcomed into the pub with a much-needed coffee. Soon, members began to filter in, eager to meet her.
By 12:30, the car park was a sight to behold—17 gleaming Morgans lined up in formation, a fantastic turnout given the weather.
Lunch and Lively Conversation
Lunch orders were taken, and before long, the tables were filled with steaming plates of hearty fare. The atmosphere was warm and convivial, with plenty of chatter and laughter as members tucked in.
The Move the Morgan Challenge
After the last meals were served, Andy Doughty introduced the Move the Morgan Challenge. This initiative, launched by OxMog, features a model of a blue Morgan Aero 8 that will travel to all 35 Morgan Centres across the country. The aim is to raise funds for the Starter Motor Charity, which equips young people with the mechanical skills needed to preserve classic cars for future generations.
Jann gave her enthusiastic endorsement of the project, noting that MSSC is also a proud sponsor.
Jann’s Story and Vision
Jann then shared her personal connection to the marque, recalling her father’s passion for Morgans and her own first drive at the age of 15 in a Plus 8. When the role of Chair of MSSC became vacant, she applied and was delighted to be appointed. Since taking on the role, Jann has focused on financial prudence and sustainability, reviewing costs across insurance, publications, and events to ensure the club remains on a sound footing. Key initiatives include: Ensuring events are profitable and not loss-making; Reducing Miscellany publications from 12 to 10 annually; Reviewing all insurance policies for efficiency. She also highlighted the upcoming 75th Anniversary celebrations of the Plus 4, encouraging members to take part in the festivities.
Questions, Answers, and Camaraderie
Members took the opportunity to ask questions about recent changes, with Jann providing clear examples of how past losses have been eliminated through careful management.
She closed her talk by praising the warmth and camaraderie of ThamesMOG, remarking: “It’s just like a lot of old friends getting together and having a chat.”
Final Thoughts
What began as a wet and blustery Sunday turned into a memorable gathering full of fellowship, insight, and inspiration. The turnout of cars and members was a testament to the enduring spirit of the Morgan community, rain or shine.
