Last month I detailed our trophies awarded to members of Thames Valley Centre on an annual basis. You will never believe it but I managed to forget one. There is of course the “wooden spoon” – not made of ash I might add because as we know all ash needs to be preserved/reserved for the construction of our beloved sports cars. The holder of this trophy is by her nature quite modest so through these good pages I will let you know her name – later though just to keep you in suspense.
It is amazing to think that we are now in December, with the end of the year fast approaching. Don’t forget that we are taking bookings for our two Christmas Dinners: please contact Andy Doughty and Mike Aldrich, for the Harte and Magpie and Bird In Hand respectively. These celebrations are always popular so please make contact as soon as you can – bookings are being taken on a first come first served basis. I hope you can make it. Please remember that for the silver salver, our new trophy will be awarded to the member of the Centre that has demonstrated the best ‘spirit’ in competition, during the year with a sense of fair play of course. The best of British, as you would expect from a Morgan Sports Car owner. Carol would also like nominations for this award as well - please write to the same email address mentioned above. We had a productive events planning meeting in October with some really exciting and varied ideas for future events and outings. I would like to thank everyone that took part – 2013 looks good. Meanwhile, please don’t forget there is the perennial New Year’s classic car meet up which is well worth a visit at the Phoenix near Hartley Wintney. As Steve Bridge has reported there are some interesting vehicles to see there over and above the veterans. I hope to see you there.
I am pleased to be able to report that Ann Miller is planning to put together a nice calendar of Thames Valley events that have taken place over the past twelve months or so. Please send Ann your photos so that she can have a lot of choice for a memorable almanac – thank you. I would like to thank Ann for her hard work in sorting through our endeavours and for making the hard decisions on what to include from all the interesting material.
Oh yes, who is the current holder of the wooded spoon trophy? This is a very good question. Well it is our very own Carol Rose. Congratulations Carol. I will leave it to Carol to explain how one wins this coveted trophy, quite possibly, considered to be the most prestigious in our collection. I look forward to learning who the winner will be for 2012, for this marvellous accolade, from Carol at our Bird In Hand Christmas dinner – I am sorry but we will have to wait until then to find out. I would like to thank Carol for all her hard work in bringing our trophies to prominence once more.
