I hope you all had an enjoyable Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend. For myself, I spent some time in London, visiting my club while watching the fly pass over the Palace. I was in Whitehall Gardens, a great place to watch as you can see the aircraft turn from the Thames as they approached Trafalgar Square and onto the Mall. Where I was, every aircraft was cheered as they went overhead. Many people were on the bridges watching them fly along the Thames which must have been an amazing sight. It made one proud to be British.
All this meant I missed our First-Thursday Noggin at the Bell and Bottle. Sadly this will be our last noggin there as we will now be making a welcome return to the Bird In Hand. From the first Thursday in July we will meet at the Bird In Hand from 7 pm. For those of you that don’t know it, coming from the Reading direction on the A4, it is a left turn just before a garage in Knowl Hill. It has a large car park – plenty of room for us. It is good because any passing Morgan will notice us and drop in. When you enter the Bird In Hand, go straight to the bar and we will be in a small area to your right. This is the fourteenth century part of the old coaching inn. It is said to be haunted. Well it will certainly be haunted by us again now. I look forward to seeing you there from 7pm onwards.
Please don’t forget, on Saturday 9th July we are joining John Grover from SogMOG for a Fly-in. It is a fly-in for vintage mostly aircraft and the pilots vintage mainly. Over 100 classic and vintage aircraft have been invited. The planes pay £10 each to land take-off is free. Cars and passengers are free to get in but a donation of £10 per car to their children’s charity (it's a fundraiser for local children's hospices.) is requested then you can leave when you're ready. Bring a picnic lunch although there should be a bacon/burger van and hot drinks van. The best thing will be homemade cakes to buy. Clean loos also available. On Saturday 16th July join ThamesMOG’s Chris Nickless at the Chorleywood Classic car Show. Now in its tenth year. Their last show in 2019 raised £7,622.75 for local charity Peace Hospice Care and in addition £1,000 was also raised for our hosts Chorleywood Common Youth Football Club, who continue to support the event. Chris Nickless describes this show as "A good day out with a large eclectic collection of cars and of course several Morgans."
