Looking ahead slightly somewhat, especially as we are now officially in summer, on New Year’s Day we shall be starting off a special walk from the world famous Saltdean Lido, taking us along an interesting stretch of the South Coast and back over the beautiful South Downs. With this in mind, I have just had some news back from a campaign that is trying to save this Art Deco building and pool. I am afraid the vote to win some monies for this worthy cause by the Co-op was lost: the Lido received 2424 votes and the winning bid got 2552, the Lido came second. The Lido is a unique national asset. Back in 1933 it was Johnny Weissmuller the first screen Tarzan that opened the pool. With a story like this alone the Lido must be saved. I would like to thank everyone that helped out by voting for the Lido; the result is a setback but this will not be the end for the campaign. Please remember that this month we shall be visiting the Walled Garden Centre, this day out is being organised by Mike Aldrich. Please arrive from 11:00 am for coffee, etc. Our visit is on Sunday 31st July. Those wanting to have a Sunday lunch this is available in the restaurant between the hours of 12.00-14:00. Mike has also arranged a cream tea for those attending starting at approximately 16:00. The owners will reserve a special area for us in the car park with space for our club banners and flags. They will be thrilled to see as many Morgan Sports cars as possible. Mike has confirmed that we shall be able to visit the adjacent Elizabethan Manor of Dorney Court. This month we shall be attending the Uxbridge Car Show. If you would like to attend please contact Allan Moore or Mike Smith as soon as you can please. As you no doubt recall we have, over the last two years running, won best club stand so this year we are going for three in a row. Ambitious plans are afoot to secure our victory – please have a word with Brian Miller for details. Shades of Pirates of the Caribbean, whether Johnny Depp will be joining us I have not been briefed but topical as ever. Good luck to all involved.
