Celebrating Helen Thorne’s wonderful news, I had the pleasure of meeting Helen for our inaugural visit, for us, to Oslar Coffee in Wokingham. Jason Oslar is the proprietor and he has fashioned the colour scheme of his coffee making machine and the coffee shop’s décor to match his late father Bert’s Morgan – Royal Ivory with a hint of brown here and there. Helen and I managed to get a seat in what has become a thriving coffee house. Naturally, Helen only had mineral water but I tasted spices from India and exquisite flavours from Columbia. We indulged ourselves with the delicious homemade cakes that brilliantly complemented my coffee. We found the staff friendly, with of course the proprietor being the epitome of charm. Helen and I had loved Bert very much and it was a joy to reminisce with his son Jason over the happy times we had spent together. In many ways Bert had been like a second father to me. We imagined Bert sitting outside, smoking his cigarette, and proudly telling people this was his son’s place. I have put Oslar Coffee on my place to visit more often list. I am sure Bert is very proud of what his son has achieved in such a short time.
Please don’t forget this month our walk at Bookham Commons, a site of special scientific interest with its ancient woodland and varied wildlife. It should be a great day out. I hope to see you there.
At the Bird In Hand this month we have our open event planning meeting (the date was changed to this month as our normal meeting room was not available – I hope this didn’t inconvenience anyone). Please come along to hear ideas for upcoming events for 2014 and beyond. There will be an open microphone for anyone to put forward any ideas they may have for future events. For example, it was at last year’s meeting that Ian Wilson proposed his canal boat trip that we enjoyed so much back in September. So do please bring along your ideas. We are here to facilitate and to encourage the enjoyment and exercising of our Morgan Sports Cars. I hope you can make it to the meeting – it will be great fun, I am sure.
